This Blog

My name is Joshua Aguero and I am creating this blog as a class assignment. From what I understand it will be functioning as a journal-type exercise. It is a part of my Exhibition Techniques class this semester and will be a part of my creative process for my senior exhibition.

I think it would be appropriate to start with a bit of information about myself. I am native Texan and I grew up in the small town of Bandera in the Hill Country. I am half Hispanic and half Caucasian and the tension between my different lines of lineage have been, and continue to be, a big influence on my worldview. I am very focused on my spiritual life and I see my work as a means of developing technical skill, exercising spiritual discipline and creating a life path. My ambition is to be a sculptor and most of my work thus far has been in clay. I enjoy working with clay but I would like to expand into other sculptural media as well. Most of my work thus far has been figural but I am willing to explore other subjects as well. I also dabble a bit in amateur photography, drawing and painting. Some of my main interests in the art world are different kinds of public art, installation pieces, ephemeral art and creation as performance. I am also interested in themes such as the idea of the liminal space, ritual, myth, nature and the human experience.
